A Quick Guide to Get a Free Ferry Ride at Nakusp, British Columbia

If Revelstoke, British Columbia is on your bucket list, I highly recommend passing by the ferry boat ride at Nakusp, British Columbia if your schedule permits.

Nakusp is a village with a population of less than 2,000 people. It is home to the most famous Halcyon Hot Springs with an overlooking view of the mountains. It is easy to get there when you’re driving from Revelstoke.

How to get there:

  • Take Highway 23 South and follow along the BC-23 Ferry ramp;
    • it is a long narrow road until you see the ferry ramp or the long line-up of vehicles waiting to get into the ferry
  • Once you get there, there are guards who can assist you if you have any questions.

If you are not bringing your vehicle, there is a parking lot on the left side of the road before you get into the ferry ramp. You can park your vehicle there and wait for the guard’s signal to go inside the ferry. You only have less than 5 minutes to go inside the ferry so make sure that you have everything you need before boarding. It is an hour ride (back and forth).

Remember:

  • You are only allowed to stand in designated areas;
  • Listen and follow the instructions when you are inside the ferry;
  • Do not go in the middle of the ferry when vehicles are in motion;
  • Bring your own hat and sunscreen. It is windy during a ferry ride so leave your fancy hats inside the vehicle, and;
  • Enjoy the view!

The best time to visit Nakusp is in June to July. Be sure to check the ferry schedule and weather before planning your trip.
