Ultimate Travel Guide from Jasper National Park to Revelstoke

Disclaimer: This post is based in my opinion and my past travel experiences.

Jasper National Park is another beautiful national park in Canada.

You can find beautiful lakes, trails and abundant wildlife in the area. I’ve visited it twice in seven years because I still haven’t seen all of its hiking trails.

In this blog post, I will help you plan your trip to Jasper and give you more travel tips as you read until the end of my journey to Revelstoke, British Columbia.

This post is also arranged in chronological order from the nearest (Jasper National Park) to the farthest (Revelstoke,BC) attraction by location.

Places to visit in Jasper National Park

Maligne Canyon

It is a 12-minute drive from the town of Jasper. There are two parking areas for this place. One is called Maligne Canyon lookout and the actual Maligne Canyon. You can park at the Maligne Canyon lookout and start your hike there if the main parking lot is full. You can just follow the trail.

Maligne Canyon Lookout

Medicine Lake

This is a popular lake as it disappears every fall and re-appears during summer time as there are a lot of sink holes in it. I’ve been here twice (one during summer and the other one during the fall season) so I have witnessed this phenomenon on the said lake.

Maligne Lake

This is the most beautiful lake in Jasper National Park. One might think that Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake are beside each other but Medicine Lake is in the middle of both spots. I highly recommend the boat cruise as it leads you to the Spirit Island where you can see the majestic views of the Canadian Rockies.

Pyramid Lake

This is a public lake where you can swim and have a picnic with your family. The views are incredible! The bridge is a 2-minute drive from the lake. It is a winding road so be careful when driving especially during winter season.

Jasper National Park

Town of Jasper

One of the most beautiful towns in Canada where you can see the famous Rocky Mountains outside your hotel room.

Here are some of my recommended activities in Jasper:

  1. Hiking
  2. Biking
  3. Sightseeing/ Sightseeing tours;
  4. Canoeing;
  5. Kayaking;
  6. Swimming in a lake (please check the local advisories before swimming);
  7. Relaxing in a Hot Spring; and,
  8. Strolling around town.

Athabasca Falls

It is located in Highway 93 and it is a 26-minute drive from the town of Jasper. The scenery is spectacular but the rapids are very strong so make sure to hold on to your little ones. There is a short hiking trail in this area where you can see the majestic formation of the Athabasca canyon. Fun fact: the largest river in Jasper National Park is called the Athabasca River.

Sunwapta Falls

After visiting Athabasca Falls, this falls is a great location to visit especially when you are planning to visit both Jasper and Banff National Park as it is in the middle of both parks.

Columbia Icefield Skywalk a.k.a Jasper Skywalk

The perfect place to walk on air in Jasper National Park. On your way to Banff National Park or Golden, BC, this last scenic spot in Jasper is a must!

How to get there: park and buy your tickets at the Discovery Centre which is a 6-minute drive from the Skywalk. From there, they will give you the instructions on where to wait for the shuttle/bus. It leaves every 15 minutes from the terminal and the Skywalk so you can take your time when visiting the Skywalk. When I went there, I waited until everyone left to go back to the Discovery Centre so I can take a photo of myself.

Places to visit in Golden, British Columbia

Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge

Location: 8th Ave N, Golden, BC

This is a nice bridge with a mini garden on the other side of it. It is a great place to take a walk and bring your dogs too.

Northern Lights Wolf Centre

Location: 1745 Short Rd, Golden, BC V0A 1H1

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been a fan of large dogs. I really made sure that I would be able to pass by and visit for an hour or more when I found out about the Northern Lights Wolf Centre. It didn’t disappoint! I arrived after 10 a.m. and our group was the first visitor of the day. There was a 25 minute interpretative presentation about wolves and their importance to our environment.

The wolves were sleeping at that time but when their Alpha, Shelley, came out after the presentation, they ran around their fences which was exciting to see! Shelley fed them their lunch and it was an amazing experience to see it! They also have a Blackwolf Photography Tour where you can walk with the wolves. Doesn’t it sound amazing? I would love to do it but my husband was so scared that I’d be eaten by a wolf. HAHAHA! Check out my Instagram account to see more! ๐Ÿ™‚

Golden Skybridge

Location: 503 Golden Donald Upper Rd, Golden, BC V0A 1H0

This is Canada’s newest attraction in Golden, BC. ๐Ÿ™‚ It is also the highest bridge ever made in Canada. There are two bridges with a height of 426 feet from the canyon below. Watch the video to see more!

There is also a Treetop Village Play Park and picnic area for families. Outside foods are not allowed inside the play park. They are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily from May to October. The third photo can be seen before the second bridge.

They also opened the Sky Zipline and Canyon Edge Challenge Course in 2021. Participants must be 8 years and older with a minimum weight of 27 kgs (60lbs). Check out their website here.

Where to Stay

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Hotel because of their included breakfast every morning. I always try and book a night at Holiday Inn as I haven’t had any bad experience on any of their hotels. The breakfast was delicious too! Their staff were always courteous and helpful!

Places to visit in Revelstoke, British Columbia

Three Valley Lake Chateau

Location: 8903 Trans-Canada Hwy, Revelstoke, BC V0E 2S0

It is privately owned and it is the most Instagrammable hotel in Revelstoke, BC overlooking the lake and the mountains.

Enchanted Forest

Location: 7060 Trans-Canada Hwy, Revelstoke, BC V0E 2S0

This place reminds me of my favorite Disney series, Once Upon A Time. All of your fairy tale stories will come to life in this place. It is also great for families and the kids will enjoy it as well.

Grizzly Plaza Downtown

Location: 111 MacKenzie Ave, Revelstoke, BC

If you like sightseeing and shopping, it is nice to park at the downtown area and visit the shops and local restaurants around the area.

I highly recommend Kawakubo Japanese Restaurant if you love Japanese foods or if you would like to try one.

Mount MacKenzie Gondola Ride

Location: 2950 Camozzi Rd, Revelstoke, BC V0E 2S1

Buy your tickets to ride the first Gondola to reach the first stop and go down the mountain using the most famous Pipe Mountain Coaster. Tickets are available online and in-person. The Pipe Mountain Coaster has a 2-3 hour wait when you arrive so I recommend to buy your tickets so you can scan the QR code outside of the Information Centre right away. It will send you updates and text messages when it is your turn to ride the coaster. I highly recommend the second Gondola ride so you can see the spectacular views of the mountains and hike to Split Rock Falls.

Gondola Revelstoke BC
Mount MacKenzie Gondola Ride

If you prefer to use both Gondolas, you can just buy the tickets for it instead of the coaster. The views are incredible at the very top of the mountain.

Split Rock Falls – This is a 600 meter (one-way) hike from the second Gondola. You can see the hidden falls inside the forest. Make sure to bring bear spray on your hike as there are a lot of animals in the forest. Be aware of your surroundings and I recommend that you hike with a travel buddy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Where to Stay

I can recommend the Basecamp Resort and Coast Hillcrest Hotel in Revelstoke. Basecamp is a few minutes away from the city and the views are amazing beside the river. It is an apartment style accommodation so you can choose between a two or three bedroom with kitchen amenities if you do not want to go to a restaurant all the time. Coast Hill has better views and an indoor restaurant. It is outside of the city as well. Both of the accommodations have an outdoor Jacuzzi, however, the wifi signal is better at Coast Hillcrest Hotel.
